Ghana’s Ambassador to Denmark, H.E. Mrs. Sylvia Naa Adaawa Annoh was the Special Guest of Honour at a programme organised by the Ghana Union of Gothenburg, Sweden, in partnership with the Ghana National Council of Sweden on Saturday 11th March 2023 to celebrate Ghana’s 66th Independence Anniversary. The event was held at Kortedala Torg, Gothenburg.
The independence celebration brought together a cross-section of Ghanaians and other African nationals living in Gothenburg, some executives of the Ghanaian Association in Malmo, some executives of the Ghana National Council of Sweden, and friends of Ghana in Gothenburg.
The evening featured Ghana through traditional dancing and drumming, local Ghanaian music, and an interactive session on Ghanaian history and folklore. Addresses were delivered by the President of the Ghana National Council of Sweden, Mr. Joe Etbon; the President of the Ghana Union of Gothenburg, Mr. Gilbert Mensah; as well as Ambassador Sylvia Annoh.
In her remarks, Ambassador Annoh conveyed greetings from His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, and congratulated all Ghanaians on the 66th Independence anniversary.
She expressed appreciation for the effort by Ghanaians across Sweden to organize themselves as one people with one agenda, even though they had settled in a ‘home away from home’.
Sharing the theme for Ghana’s 66th Independence anniversary, (“Our Unity; Our Strength; Our Purpose”) Ambassador Annoh observed that these values are particularly essential as the world goes through very trying and difficult times, and that these values will underpin the successes of Ghana, Sweden, and the entire world in the coming decades.
Ambassador Annoh, and the accompanying staff members of the Ghana Embassy, joined the Ghanaian branch of the Methodist Church in Gothenburg for a thanksgiving service the following day.
