The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Copenhagen successfully concluded a series of high-profile activities to mark the 69th Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Ghana, held under the national theme, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.”

The celebrations commenced with a youth-centered essay competition titled “If You Were President of the Republic of Ghana for One Year, What Policy Actions Would You Prioritise to Advance National Development?”, aimed at harnessing the innovative perspectives of the Ghanaian diaspora in Denmark and Sweden. This was followed by a high-level Symposium on 5th March 2026, which served as a strategic policy dialogue. The symposium brought together academics, development stakeholders, and diaspora representatives to discuss critical themes, including diaspora investment as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth and the role of youth engagement in promoting Ghana’s burgeoning tourism sector.

The commemorative activities reached a pinnacle on 6th March 2026, with a grand National Day Reception hosted by Her Excellency Dr. Margaret Miewien Chebere. The event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, Danish government officials, partners and the Ghanaian community, providing a platform to reaffirm the enduring bilateral ties between Ghana and Denmark.

A key highlight of the day was a captivating performance by the legendary Ghanaian percussionist, Okyerema Asante. Renowned for his drum ensemble, Okyerema Asante’s adept display of traditional talking drums and highlife rhythms provided a profound cultural anchor for the day, embodying the spirit of Ghanaian heritage and the theme for the celebration through the lens of cultural diplomacy and creative excellence.
